FAQs
If you have any questions, hopefully I've answered them here - if there's still something you're unsure of feel free to get in touch.
I'm neurodivergent, can we work in a way that suits how I think?
Of course! Whether that's using more visual tools, breaking things into smaller steps, or working at a slower pace, I'll adapt to whatever works best for your needs to ensure you get the perfect website for you.
What's the first step if I want you to design a website for me?
We'll start with a free intro call to chat about your website needs. If you'd rather talk over email at first, I'm happy to answer any questions up-front.
How does the process work?
In most projects, there will usually be the following phases:
- Briefing: You fill in my get in touch form, and we arrange to meet and discuss the project further.
- Onboarding: This is a free, no-obligation intro call to clarify project goals, your access needs and any constraints or requirements.
- Discovery: Once the project plan has been agreed, I will begin the discovery phase, where I will research your existing website performance (if you already have one), look at your competitors, and your target audience.
- Design: With information on your industry, website performance and your vision, I will plan out the structure of the website and mock up the pages.
- Build: This is where your website comes to life. I will advise you on a website builder and start building the pages according to the designs. At this stage, you will provide me with the desired website content (if you are not 100% sure what you want on each page, I can make suggestions with UX best practices in mind).
- Launch & Support: With the website built, I’ll ensure that SEO is integrated into the website, add it to Google Search Console and activate analytics. Then, I will provide you with training so you know how to update your new website. If you would like support with website updates, I offer a retainer service where I can make regular updates to plugins and content.
What do I need to prepare before the project starts?
Before we start working together, it would be helpful for you to have a rough idea of what success looks like, whether that is through an email, a moodboard, or a lot of infodumping - the more context, the better!
Will I have to provide website images and other content?
Depending on your budget, it is your choice whether you want to provide me with all the website images and copy to be ready to be added to the website as they are. Images may need to be resized or edited to fit the website requirements.
Either I can give you details of the image formats needed, or I can resize the images for you and edit them. For text on buttons, I can suggest the most accessibility friendly link names to ensure that each button’s purpose is clear for screen readers.
Finally, for your website copy, depending on your preferences and budget, you can provide me with a document that has details of the wording for each page of the website, or I can help you fill in the gaps and write copy for headings and intro text with your direction.
How will I update my website, and will it cost?
I build websites to help you easily make changes in builders such as WordPress and Wix. I know how hard it can be to work with systems you’re unfamiliar with, or feel the need to rely on someone for very small changes when you have the impulse to get things done asap. (It's ok, I know we all hate to wait!).
If you need help with website updates and content changes, I offer a pick & mix website updates service for ad-hoc requests.
If I change my mind on something for the website, what happens?
As an indecisive AuDHDer, I understand that decision-making is incredibly hard, especially when you’re paying for something. After each phase, I allow for two rounds of revisions on changes such as page layout, colours, and website structure.
If you’re facing decision paralysis and need some help to make up your mind, I’d be happy to have a quick chat and go through your thought process - I am an expert at helping people know what they don’t want to help them uncover what they do want.
Do you know how to implement SEO?
Yes, I ensure that throughout the website design process, SEO is accounted for, whether that is through keywords, ensuring the correct heading tags are used at the right level, and that pages have the right URL structure.
Are your website designs responsive?
YES! Approximately 60% of website users in the UK are mobile users, so it is crucial to design responsively! In the design stage, I will mock up both desktop and mobile versions of your website so you know how it will look across both devices.
Do you offer services other than website design?
Yes, as part of my pick & mix website updates, I offer a list of deliverables from a UX audit to updating your stock inventory. If you need something specific, such as a logo or branding, get in touch, and we can discuss how I can best help you.
How much does a website cost?
The price of a website can vary depending on factors like whether the project is a full design or a redesign, has ecommerce integrated, and the number of content/pages.
When we discuss your project in more detail, I will be able to give you an accurate quote.
Why is your style different from that of a regular website designer?
The website design process can usually be fast-paced and milestone-led, which doesn't tend to allow for overwhelm, decision paralysis, and the need to break tasks down further.
My mission is to change the status quo of the professional website design landscape and make sure that no matter your access needs, the website design process will work for you and your overwhelm. Need a quick check-in to help you decide which image you like best? - Sure, let’s do it! Need to take the process a bit slower? - All good, let me know what works best for you!
Do I need to know anything about websites to work with you?
Not at all, you don't need any tech experience and I will guide you through the website design process step by step - when you're working with me, there are no silly questions!
